Easy-to-Follow Exercises to Prevent Back Pain

October 26, 2008

Have you experienced a back pain? Not yet? Really? Well, if that’s true, you should not feel so comfortable that you won’t ever experience a back pain. Studies have shown that all people will experience back pain. That just means that if you don’t experience one today, you might suffer from a back pain maybe next month, next week, tomorrow or even later. I’m not frightening you but because I seemed to frighten you, I’ll give you a bonus information on how you can avoid this dreadful experience, the back pain. These are some exercises that will help on preventing back pain. Doing these exercises, back pain is unlikely to harm you. So if you do these ones, you can now be quite sure that you’ll never undergo a back pain.

The muscles in your thighs, back and stomach all work to stabilize the core of your body and if these muscles are weak or unconditioned, back pain is the result. Therefore, taking up exercises to prevent back pain and incorporating these main areas is a smart move that will keep your back happy for a long time.

Leg Raises

There are two types of leg raise exercises to prevent back pain. One is requiring a position on your back and the other one on your stomach. The prone leg raises begins on the stomach and requires that you lift one leg off the ground, as high as you can, typically at about a foot or two. After that, you will need to hold your leg in this position for about 8 to 12 seconds before relaxing and repeating with the opposite leg. Repeat the set five times at least two to three times a day.

The second leg raise exercises to prevent back pain start with you lying on your back with legs extended. Lift one leg up from the ground and hold the position for about 10-12 seconds then relaxing before repeating with the next leg. This set should be repeated five times and performed two to three times daily for maximum benefit.

Upright Back Stretch

This is one of the simplest exercises to prevent back pain. It starts off with you standing with your feet shoulder length apart. With your hands at pressed at the small of your back for support, slowly bend backwards as far as your back can bear it without bending your knees. The position should be held for about five seconds before relaxing and then repeating for at least five more times.

Wall Slide

The wall can be used for a number of exercises to prevent back pain such as one called the wall slide. Start with your back against the wall with your feet apart then slowly slide your back down the wall while bending your knees slowly. Once your knees are at a 45-degree angle, hold the position for five seconds and then slowly release and return upright. Exercises to prevent back pain such as this should be repeated several times a day.

I know several kinds of trouble-free exercises that will prevent back pain. However, I reckon it would be better if you would consult your doctor or physical therapist regarding this matter and ask him which kind of exercise would be the best for you. Also, learn how to use some tools on exercising such as exercise ball because this will help on facilitating your exercises to prevent back pain.

Do You Need Cosmetic Surgery?

October 19, 2008

Cosmetic surgery is a growing trend among the modern, urban people. Everyone who considers cosmetic surgery have their own specific reasons for undergoing this procedure.

One of the major reasons is surely to create and maintain a more youthful appearance and escape the hands of old age. With increase in age, the skin begins to sag, collagen production slows down and the entire body begins to show signs of slowing or breaking down.

Aging is an inevitable fact of life and these signs do remind people of their old age and of the youth they have left behind. For those who age quickly, these signs can make them look older than they actually are.

This is where cosmetic surgery comes in. It tightens the skin, reshapes it and makes it look younger. It is true that you cannot erase every sign of aging with the help of cosmetic surgery, but it will enable you to make yourself look refreshed and well toned.

Any part of the body can undergo cosmetic surgery to make it look younger, which is the reason why so many people go through several surgeries in their lifetime. After all, each body part does age at a different time and at different rates.

Many people are born with certain physical deformities or in the course of their life may acquire a deformity which often leads to a feeling of inferiority.

Cosmetic surgery can help in the correction of such deformities. For example, a woman maybe born with uneven breasts and through cosmetic surgery she might want to correct this deformity with some sort of an augmentation.

One of the main reasons why so many people consider cosmetic surgery is because they want to feel good about their appearance which in turn boosts their self esteem.

A woman who has small breasts may consider cosmetic surgery for reshaping this deformity for which she might have faced ridicule in the past. While the surgery does not boost self esteem, it helps you, at least to love your body.

By taking control of the way you look, you can correct something for which you have been mocked before.

Sometimes, cosmetic surgery is not an option but a necessity. One such example is a nose job that has to be done to treat deviated septums. The surgery is technically rhinoplasty; it is also helping the patient to live a more normal life.

Severe burns and injuries are treated by plastic surgeons who repair the skin in such a way that it decreases scars and disfigurements. The patient’s body cannot be restored to its exact appearance prior to the accident, but at least it does not make the patient feel different about him or herself in comparison with those who look ‘normal’.

For some, cosmetic surgery is a gift they present themselves with. For example, many mothers who have newly given birth opt for tummy tucks to return to the bodies they had prior to the pregnancy.

Even after losing weight, some parts of the body do not slim down the way you want them to. Cosmetic surgery is perhaps the only solution to this kind of a problem.

Some parts of a woman’s body cannot be changed by exercise or diet. In these cases, cosmetic surgery is the only option.

Cosmetic surgery is often a gift that is given to others. While this kind of a gift is condemned by many, it might actually turn out to be a useful gift for some one who does want to change the way he or she looks.

If they are aware of the risks involved and yet want to go ahead and change their appearance, this might be the most practical gift to give.

Skincare – What is best for you?

October 6, 2008

There are so many cleansers, creams, scrubs, pastes, and liquids on the market today but how many of us know which ones are appropriate for our skin type? The first thing to do is determine what skin type you actually are. To do this, wash your face and gently pat it dry. Do not moisturize or apply makeup or any other type of product for around three to five hours in order to let your skin breathe.

After at least three hours have passed, press a tissue to your face making sure you press down on the forehead, nose and cheeks. When you remove the tissue, if it is oil free and your skin does not appear flaky or feel tight, then your skin type is more than likely normal. If the tissue is oil free but your skin feels tight or flaky, then you probably have dry skin. If oil comes off on the tissue on the cheek area, then your skin is oily. If oil comes off on the forehead and/or nose area, then you have combination skin.

No matter your skin type, you may also have sensitive skin. That is skin that reacts to facial products by becoming inflamed, red, blotchy, and/or itchy.

Now you have determined your skin type, it should be much easier to work out which skincare products will be best for you. For each skin type we have put some basic advice below:

Normal skin – To maintain fresh look to your skin, it is important to keep its balance which means you will need to regularly hydrate your skin. Wash with a water-soluble cleanser at least two or three times a day, being careful to avoid soaps with lathering agents which can often strip away the skin’s moisture. Aim to use something that is creamy in consistency. After cleansing, aim to use a moisturizing lotion.

At night, exfoliate the skin to get rid of dead skin cells. Use a moisturizing cream rich in alpha-hydroxy acids or glycolic acid. These will help to maintain the skin’s delicate balance while still getting rid of the dead outer layer of the epidermis.

Dry skin – choose products that will hydrate the skin and make it more supple. Dry skin should only be washed once, at the end of the day using a gentle, milky cleanser.

Moisturize dry skin with a very rich emollient cream. Apply it over skin that has been splashed with water and is still damp to the touch. This will help to set the moisture into the skin.

Dry skin should not be exfoliated every night. Once or twice a week is more than sufficient. Always use a lotion containing retinol or alpha-hydroxy acids. Retinol helps to stimulate collagen production plumps up the skin while it also smoothes it out. Alpha-hydroxy acids exfoliate dead, scaly skin cells to make room for the fresh, new cells.

Oily Skin – To remove excess oils from the skin, wash twice a day with a non-soap cleanser designed specifically for oily skin. After washing, don’t automatically use a moisturiser but check to see if one is needed. If your skin feels soft and supple then there is no need to moisturise. If it is slightly tight or dry, use an oil free lotion that won’t clog the pores.

At night apply a retinoid lotion that is enriched with vitamin A to exfoliate the skin. Apply moisturizer only if the skin feels tight or dry.

Combination Skin – For the T-Zone, remove dirt and oil with a gentle, non-soap cleanser. Avoid lathers that will dry out the already parched areas of the skin.

In the morning and at night, apply a lightweight oil-free moisturizer. If the T-zone feels oily, skip the moisturizer in that area.

Exfoliate the skin every night with a cream containing alpha-hydroxy acids or retinols. If the skin becomes red or irritated after two or three exfoliations, then cut back to two or three times a week.

Sensitive Skin – To prevent irritation irrespective of the type of skin you have, wash only with a gentle fragrance and dye free cleanser. Be sure to avoid ingredients like acids, botanicals and irritating preservatives like ethanol and propylene glycol. Avoid anything heavily scented or overtly coloured in moisturizers.

Exfoliating sensitive skin with anything that has fruit acids or physical granules is not advised. Those products are highly likely to irritate sensitive. Instead, look for a cream high in antioxidants like vitamin C that also hydrates and smoothes.

Follows these above steps and you are on the way to great looking skin.
